    Hey, I’m Carolina

I have been working on the epidemiology of Gram-negative bacilli, the characterization of their resistance mechanisms, and the evaluation of diagnostic tools for their identification since 2011. Over the years, I was involved in projects studying important nosocomial and community-acquired pathogens, such as carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriales and Acinetobacter spp., as well as Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

During my PhD, I characterized the genetic background mediating colistin resistance in A. baumannii and improved my knowledge on high-throughput sequencing methodologies and genomic data analysis. Since I joined Institute Pasteur, in November 2020, I have been evaluating the dynamics of mobile genetic elements associated with the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in historical Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli.
